Open Day

The open day was held in July and we were blessed with excellent weather - this allowed lots of visits from other aircraft owners who displayed their variety of aircraft. Visitors were lucky enough to view a number of Cessnas, Cherokees, microlights and a breath taking Tiger Moth. We also had a Tornado GR4 on display courtesy of IX (B) Sqn. The majority of visitors all took their turn to sit in it, being careful not to activate the ejection seat!

Some of our younger visitors participated in our Young Eagles scheme where they were taken for a flight in a Cherokee. The purpose of the scheme is to give young people air experience and perhaps encourage them to learn to fly. Visitors also had the opportunity to visit the Air Traffic Control tower to see what goes on in there.

In addition to this, visitors were encouraged to join the club with a promotional scheme where anyone who joined on the day would receive their first lesson at the discounted rate of 25% off. Membership secretary, Rhona Hodson was on hand to provide information and sign up new members.

To top the day off, Paul and Amanda Sawyer slaved over a hot BBQ and provided a mound of burgers, free to all visitors. Even though the majority of club members and BPPA visitors were all attending a meal in the evening, it didn't stop us all having at least 2 burgers each!

Marham was host to a BPPA competition the following day, so it made sense for BPPA members who visited to stay overnight and join us for a social night out organised by our competition member, Martin Reynolds. The night involved a delicious 3 course meal, a number of drinks (and for those who drank alcohol, a lift home from the sober members who were flying the next day!), great company and delightful conversation!

Our appreciation goes out to IX (B) Sqn for providing the Tornado, Joe Bridge for the photography, all visitors who provided aircraft to display and everyone who helped make the day a success.
