SLCs and ELCs
Standard Learning Credits
SLCs are available to every single serving member of the military and you can claim them each and every year! The SLC is worth up to £175 pounds and can be used to fund certain activities. The good news is that we have negotiated with the Education Centre to include ground school and exams. The Marham Aero Club offers a package of tuition, including all 7 exams and even includes the cost of re-sits in the unlikely event of being required, for £220. This is an absolutely all-inclusive package to take you right up to the academic standard required for the JAR PPL. You must enrol on the SLC scheme and let them know that you are intending to complete the ground school by completing a Form 724. You will be responsible for paying for the module yourself, and when completed, can claim back 80% of the cost (£175) by completing a Form 509B. It really is as simple as that! So for the cost to yourself of £45 you will have received top-class instruction and will have all 7 PPL exam passes tucked in your pocket. Don't be slack, sign up now!

Enhanced Learning Credits
The MAC is a fully accredited ELC provider as of January 2009.
ELCs are a little complicated but offer far greater rewards than SLCs. The scheme has been active since Apr 04 and offers £1000 per year for up to 3 separate years that do not have to be concurrent. If you wait 4 years, you will be able to claim £2000 per year for up to 3 separate years. The good news is that you can use the ELC to train for the PPL. First, you will need to register for the scheme and demonstrate that you have a real plan of how you will study (Click here for details of personal development plans).
The way to ensure that your bid is successful is to make sure you state that in order to be able to complete a modular CPL/ATPL package, you must have a PPL at the start. This should make the process easier. In addition, the MAC will be offering modules of training, allowing you to break the PPL into easily definable parts, each eligible for an ELC claim.
Full details of both schemes are available at the learning forces web site.
